My cousin had a cat for six years named "Snowy," a black-and-white cat with a cow-like pattern. Every time I saw her, I felt like she was such a unique creature—obedient yet independent, always quietly lying on the windowsill, half-closed eyes watching the world outside. My cousin loved Snowy deeply, always preparing delicious meals and carefully picking out toys. She often said that Snowy was like her child—no matter how busy she was, she never forgot to keep her company.

However, one day, fate gave them a cruel test. That morning, my cousin went to work as usual, but when she came home, she found Snowy lying motionless on the living room floor, eyes half-open, as if peacefully entering an eternal sleep. In that moment, my cousin’s heart shattered. She knelt down and held Snowy, tears flooding down uncontrollably. Snowy had left so suddenly, without warning. My cousin couldn’t understand why this deep bond could be taken away so abruptly by fate.
For a while, my cousin was immersed in endless sorrow. She often sat in the place where Snowy used to love staying, staring at the empty room, feeling that the loss wasn’t just of a pet, but of a companion who had walked through life with her. Over time, she decided never to have another cat again, because she couldn’t bear to face the helplessness of parting once more.
But fate, it seemed, had its own plans and would intervene when least expected.
One evening, after work, my cousin was walking into her apartment building when she suddenly heard a faint "meow, meow" sound, weak but urgent. She looked down and saw a black-and-white cat standing at the door, calling out to her. In that moment, my cousin felt a strange sensation, as though she had seen Snowy again.
The stray cat was dirty, clearly starving, and neglected. It looked so lonely and helpless, its meows filled with a silent plea. My cousin stood frozen, torn with conflicting emotions. She felt a pang of guilt, as if betraying Snowy. She had sworn not to adopt another cat, but this little one seemed so pitiful.
“But… could this be Snowy returning to find me?” she thought, torn. She felt conflicted, wanting to give the little cat a home, but fearing that moving on so quickly would mean abandoning the memory of Snowy. But seeing the poor little creature, my cousin’s heart softened.
After much internal struggle, my cousin decided to bring the stray cat home. She bathed it, gave it a new name—"Bella." Perhaps this was destiny at play, or maybe Snowy had quietly guided her in another form. Bella slowly adapted to her new home and began to show her own personality—playful, curious, and even bearing some of Snowy’s traits.
Over time, Bella started to resemble Snowy more and more. Her eyes were bright, her fur a striking black-and-white pattern, and sometimes she would tap my cousin’s lap with her paw, just like Snowy used to do when she wanted affection. Every time my cousin stroked her soft fur, she felt as though Snowy was still with her, quietly accompanying her, bringing warmth and comfort.
From that point on, Bella lived a happy life in my cousin’s home. Although she could never fully replace Snowy, her presence brought new love and warmth into my cousin’s life. In the moments they spent together, my cousin learned to accept loss and to embrace new beginnings.
“Maybe Snowy really did come back, just with a different name,” my cousin often thought, a smile on her face. No matter whether Bella was Snowy reincarnated or not, she had become an irreplaceable part of my cousin’s life, and the memory of the beloved Snowy would forever remain in my cousin’s heart.
